In my school we were forced to speak English like literally and forget pahadi even speaking hindi used to be crime , one subject of hindi and rest 10 subjects used to be in English.

In home both mom and dad do conversation in pahadi but they made sure me and brother won't , even now we get scolded for using pahadi words but I get they did for our betterment cause in our school people who used to have pahadi accents somewhere every one consider it "gawar"

I still remember my school days. I was brainwashed by my delhi based school that bhojpuri is a dirty language and language of low class people. Speaking bhojpuri was considered a crime in my school and students who spoke bhojpuri were seen with disgust and sometimes even punished. 

The worst part of this was that the teachers that were ensuring this happens were also bhojpuriyas, the school was in bihar and if you complain about this, nothing will happen, parents will justify this and the government won't do anything to change this.

People need to realise that language and culture is not the problem. It's the people that are giving bad names to our language and culture. Leaving bhojpuri and accepting hindi is seen as an easy way out by many people, rather than leaving our language, people need to embrace it and collectively demand action against those people who are ruining our language by making dirty cheap songs.

Back in 2013, when I was in 9th. Two brothers joined us in school as new classmates. They both used to speak in Bhojpuri and we friends used to tease them. The reason, their accent was weird to us and we believed Bhojpuri was languages of people who are low class. We all were so wrong and I regret it.

But best thing, we all are still friends together. We respect other languages and I usually listen Bhojpuri songs and Bhajans.

I have two sides - one is enjoying the rich literature and the Hindustani language (Hindi and Urdu) and the second is lamenting over the dead languages of North India and so called "dialects".

The best part of India is its diversity. Please preserve it guys. Yes, my mothertongue was Hindustani and I am very fond of the flexibility it provides with its word choices but it is so sad to see the shit it has directly/indirectly has unleashed. Thanks to some singers, the perception of Bhojpuri among people like me is so negative. I won't lie, even I as a kid with little to no Bhojpuri "input" thought that it is a kind of dirty dialect. I agree that I thought like this when I was 5 or 6 but then I realised that it is also a language and equally beautiful just like other languages. This happened when I heard people speaking it. Bhojpuri, awadhi, etc PRE-DATE hindi as a language. They cannot be classified as dialects of Hindi when they are older than hindi only.
Nothing wrong with Hindi. But in this country when people don't accept actually facts as facts only, nothing can be done.

Let me take an example of China.

China also has many languages, also of different language groups. ( Sinitic, Indo-Europian, Sino-tibetan, Hmong-mien, etc group of languages)

But at their political center "Beijing" they speak a dialect of modern chinese. As their leaders ruled from the place, they decided that, that language should be their national language. So they changed their education system, and started using only that version of chinese in the government. Suppressed the rise of other languages. Tried to mark entire languages as mere dialects... . They could do that 'cause at first ( during the Mao zedong era) they were very authoritarian, also the people are predominantly "Han Chinese".

In India, the situation was kinda similar. Hindi is predominantly used near Delhi and so we tried to do the same thing. Mark entire languages with their own literature and scripts as mere dialects. Try to predominantly use Hindi in government institutions, etc. 

But India is a union of states. The people(in power) will try to retaliate. Encourage the masses to take action. 
This is as suppressing a language is suppressing the 1000s of years of development of each language, Suppressing their culture...

But to connect all of them a link language is necessary. So hindi as spoken in Delhi it is.

Hindi is understood by the majority that's why hindi is important. I learnt english because I don't want the door of opportunities to be closed just because I don't know a particular language. Why are we going backwards? Why can't we join hands and make an improved version of languages? All languages evolve with time based on the surroundings. Otherwise I don't see someone cry about Sanskrit or greek? Coz they were only medium. The car was still invented. The trains were still running. 

Regional languages are good, they should be part of our culture like songs, daily talks, and peoms. But a working language should help us survive. 

I have friends in Chennai, I talked to them like "Anna what is this?" Is this sentence complete in English or tamil?? Noooooo. Why can't we just stick to mediating ideas. A stupid will remain stupid no matter what the language.

My Bhojpuri grandfather and Maithil grandmother could converse and build a shared life because of Hindi. The same holds true for a lot of people in North India. There's a need to revive and destigmatize Bhojpuri, yes,  but we shouldn't demonise Hindi in the process.

Even if Marathi is mandatory the level is too low. Most non Maharashtrians after school can't even have a decent conversation in Marathi. Hindi doesn't have that problem as it's falling on your ears all the time. Movies, news etc. I think level of Marathi needs to be raised. And 3rd language start only in year 6 or 7 and don't make it compulsory to count as a scoring subject.

Removing "mandatory" is really a good decision. Learning Marathi and English both are very important for the growth and the career. And choise of selecting a 3rd language is good thing too. One can learn any language as a hobby (Any Indian or foreign language)

I am not from the northeast but I'll say the guys that said don't have much knowledge, most of his claims are wrong or misleading
Hindi originated from shaura seni which originated from prakrit that came from vedic sanskrit 
And talk about kannada or any Dravidian language.
They all came from a whole different family called proto Dravidian.
So saying that rejecting hindi is like crushing their tradition and culture is totally wrong because there is no link in hindi and kannada as both are from different family 
And i know there are some ppl with extreme outrage against hindi but many Indian languages got extinct and many are on the edge of extinction 
One of the examples is the pahadi language which had its own script ( takri script) is now written in devnagri script same with bhojpuri which had its kaithi script is now being written in devnagri 
And fun fact - bhojpuri is older than hindi

Meghalaya has announced that one bigha of land is reserved for a B.Tech graduate from North India as a thankful gesture for introducing paneer in the state. 

Other states are currently crafting strategies and implementation measures to best thank the Raja Babus.

As for purity, it's not shauraseni prakrit which is the closest to Sanskrit, it's the maharashtri prakrit: in pronunciation, vocabulary and the use of the letter ळ. 

How stupid can one get? All four major southern languages are from a proto language of non Indo European origin, and one which far predates any IE language in India including Sanskrit. The North East (except for Axom and Tripura) also speaks non IE languages.
